An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that is capable of detecting cardiac arrest in a human. And with the help of an electric jolt, it can restart the heart and save a life. <\/p>\n

An AED consists of a housing with a battery, from which two label electrodes emerge. The electrodes are placed on the anterior chest wall, triggering an electrical shock and allowing the heart to beat normally. As it works automatically, it cannot harm the patient, as the device itself detects when to deliver an electric shock. Depending on the model, there may be up to 2 buttons on the body (for switching on and triggering the electric jolt), a speaker (through which the machine gives voice instructions in Slovenian) and, in some cases, a screen where the instructions are also printed out.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The device does not save lives on its own, of course, but it is an extremely welcome addition to resuscitation with chest compressions (cardiac massage) and artificial respiration. CPR using an AED can do as much as an entire rescue team arriving later and save a life.<\/div>\n
