PARKING AND TRAFFIC REGIME IN BOHINJ

• Parking is not allowed everywhere else, including on regional roads, and is sanctioned by the traffic police (Inter-municipal Inspectorate and Traffic Wards of the municipalities of Bled, Bohinj and Železniki).

• Always keep your mobile phone with a full battery, let your family know where you are and when you’ll be back
• Only go to the mountains when you are 100% HEALTHY
• Whatever the season, there are three golden rules for hiking and mountaineering: the right equipment, the right destination and good information (weather, closed trails, etc.). And, of course, all the other tips for staying safe in the mountains. Let safety always come first!!

ALL ROAD CLOSURES IN BOHINJ

DANGEROUS PART OF THE SAVA RIVER, TEMPORARY NAVIGATION REGIME:

Please be informed that part of the Sava dam (the bridge at Petrol) is damaged and very dangerous for all boats as well as for swimmers. In this case, it is a so-called siphon, which can pull a swimmer or a vessel underwater with its current and thus trap them in a life-threatening situation. Especially at higher water levels, this part is hazardous when it is not visible.

We therefore ask you to inform all your guests about this dangerous part of the Sava, especially those who are planning to take their own boats down the Sava Bohinjka. We would also like to remind you that the Municipality of Bohinj, in May this year, adopted a decree establishing a temporary navigation regime on the Sava Bohinjka, which prohibits navigation downstream of the aforementioned bridge at Petrol in Bohinjska Bistrica. The last entry/exit point is just before the bridge on the left bank of the Sava Bohinjka (next to the cycle path).

SHORT-TERM PARKING ZONES (BLUE ZONES):

Published: 26.04.2024 (on the website of the Municipality of Bohinj)

In the area of Bohinjska Bistrica, from 1st 6. in accordance with the Decision on the determination of public parking areas, parking fees and parking cards (Official Gazette of the Municipality of Bohinj, No.2/24), a parking regime will be established in the parking areas, which allows free short-term parking.

The car parks where it is planned to establish are:

• P28 Bohinjska Bistrica 28 (Cemetery, Spar)
• P29 Bohinjska Bistrica 29 (Joža Ažman Cultural Centre)
• P30 Bohinjska Bistrica 30 (Trg svobode, Local Market Square)

Short-term parking (one or two hours) will be available in the car parks. For holders of the “Citizen” or “Holiday Home Owner” and “Friends of Bohinj” parking cards, parking is unrestricted. The condition is that the parking card has been paid for the current year.

The blue zone marking indicating the short-term parking zone is already in place in the car parks, and the parking regime and controls will be implemented from 1. 6..

In Bohinj, we want visitors and their pets to enjoy a pleasant and safe summer by the lake. However, following another tragic incident, we are closely monitoring the situation and taking additional measures to protect both dogs and people.

We are deeply aware of how painful the loss of a pet is. That is why the Municipality of Bohinj is introducing additional measures to clarify the causes as quickly as possible and to prevent similar cases in the future.

In the areas where algal mats have been detected, warning signs prohibiting swimming for both people and dogs have already been installed. An additional sign will be placed in the Ukanc area.

The Municipality of Bohinj is working closely with inspectorates, the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection, and other relevant institutions. A forensic autopsy of the latest case will be carried out in order to determine the exact causes of the problem.

So far, analyses of bathing water quality have shown no irregularities. You can also check the water quality yourself via the link, where results of regular bi-weekly analyses during the bathing season are published: ARSO – Bathing Water

For the time being, we nevertheless recommend avoiding areas where algal mats have been observed when walking dogs, until the circumstances are clarified. At the same time, we remind visitors that according to the municipal ordinance and the Triglav National Park regulations, dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.

The cycle path is still subject to a technical inspection and the issue of a certificate of use, which is a prerequisite for its opening. Until then, driving is prohibited.

We urge you to stay off the route of the new cycle path and to refrain from directing guests and visitors to it. For the time being, cyclists are obliged to use the national road on this route. Once construction is complete, they will be diverted to the new cycling route.

The construction of the cycling link between Bohinjska Bistrica and Bled started in autumn 2022 and is expected to be completed by 2025. The investment is worth around €18 million.

Message following the Annual General Meeting of the Bohinj Route Consortium

The Bohinj Route Consortium, which brings together municipalities, development agencies and tourist destination organisations along the route between Jesenice and Sežana, held its regular annual general meeting in Bohinjska Bistrica. After years of stagnation, the establishment of the Consortium has also helped to bring new momentum and a unified thinking that the route is the backbone of sustainable mobility in the area between Gorenjska and North Primorska, with cross-border links to Austria and Italy.

In particular, the mayors underlined their satisfaction and also their great expectations for the planned investment in the reconstruction of the section between Jesenice and Bohinjska Bistrica, which is in the final design
phase and work is scheduled to start this year. If the second railway line is important for the Slovenian economy, for the two regions this investment is a ticket to better connectivity and sustainable tourism. Despite the short-term constraints, it is the best response to the increase in demand, as passenger growth on the line exceeds the Slovenian average. This is also confirmed by the indicator for bicycle transport, with three-fifths of the transport carried out on the Bohinj line.

Due to planned investment and maintenance interventions on the line, it will not be possible in the coming years to avoid longer interruptions of traffic on individual sections, alternative bus services and consequent delays. Therefore, the members of the Consortium have committed themselves to the preparation of a communication plan, which would contribute to timely and more effective information for both local users and visitors, through the ongoing cooperation of all key stakeholders (Slovenian Railways, DRSI) and through all their communication channels.

The members of the Consortium always stress that this is not just a regional line, but an important part of an international network, which this year, with the focus on the European Capital of Culture, has a historic opportunity to regain the role and prestige it enjoyed when the Prague-Trieste link was built and established.
