Additional free bus services for visitors to Bohinjska noč

In addition to the regular summer organised transport services, the Bohinj Tourist Association will provide additional free bus services for the event. These services are not part of the regular summer lines but are being organised specifically for travel to and from Bohinjska noč. They may, of course, also be used by other passengers.

On 24 July 2026, the partners signed a stewardship agreement for the natural value Savica – Waterfall. This is the first agreement of its kind in Triglav National Park. The new system also includes the reintroduction of an admission fee, in accordance with the Nature Conservation Act. The funds collected are earmarked and will be used for the management and protection of the natural value, trail maintenance, visitor safety and measures in the surrounding area. Information on how the funds are used will be published annually.

Services at the entrance point are provided by an operator selected through a public procurement procedure – the Bohinj Tourist Association, which has maintained the Savica area since 1951 and collected admission fees since 1956. Ticket sales are carried out on behalf of Tourism Bohinj, while the association also provides maintenance, cleaning and general management of the area. This means that the on-site work remains in local hands.

ADMISSION TO SAVICA WATERFALL

From 1 August 2026:

• visitors aged 16 and over: EUR 4,
• visitors under the age of 16: free admission,
• the first Sunday of every month: free admission for everyone,
• a group discount is available for organised groups,
• admission is included for holders of the Julian Alps: Bohinj Card.

Entrance point opening hours

• August and September: 8:00–19:00,
• October: 9:00–17:00,
• November and December: 9:00–16:00.
• Access may be closed for safety reasons in the event of heavy rain, storms, snowfall, icy conditions, high water levels or a risk of falling rocks.

HOW TO GET TO SAVICA WATERFALL

By bus

• During the summer season, a daily bus service operates between Bohinjska Bistrica and Savica Waterfall until 31 August 2026.
• The service is part of Arriva’s summer regular public bus network and fares are charged according to the operator’s price list: Arriva.si.
• Visitors are advised to check the current timetable and any service changes before travelling.
• We particularly recommend travelling by bus during peak visiting times, when the number of available parking spaces near the waterfall is limited.
• You can also leave your car at one of the car parks in Bohinjska Bistrica and continue your journey by bus.
• Another option is to travel to Ukanc using an organised transport service, line 1, or a regular public bus service operated by Arriva, and continue to the waterfall on foot.

By car

• The paid P9 Savica Waterfall car park is located at the starting point of the walking trail to the waterfall: vehicles up to 2 metres high, up to 3 hours: EUR 7, all-day parking: EUR 15.
• The parking fee is charged separately from the admission fee for the waterfall.
• Park only in designated parking spaces and check parking availability before setting off.
• When the car park is busy, use one of the car parks in Bohinjska Bistrica and continue by bus.
• PLEASE NOTE: Parking of campervans at P9 or drive on the Ukanc–Savica Waterfall road between 1. 7. and 31. 8. is not permited.
• The car park is equipped with barriers, and payment is possible by card only. Cash payments are not accepted.

Tourist coaches

• For tourist coaches, the parking fee at P9 is EUR 25 for up to three hours or EUR 50 for the whole day..

Plan your visit in advance, follow current traffic information and use public transport whenever possible.
By doing so, you will help reduce traffic pressure in the area and contribute to a more pleasant visit to Savica Waterfall for everyone.

Where can you park at a lower cost?

Free car parks

Parking for €5 per day

• P14 Srednja vas – Senožeta

Park only in designated car parks. Parking along roads, on grass or outside designated parking spaces is not permitted. Information about individual car parks, including current occupancy, is available on the PARKING IN BOHINJ page.

Which trailheads can you reach by organised transfer or regular bus service?

Organised transfers in Bohinj and regular bus services can take you towards:

• the Vogar–Blato crossroad – the starting point for Vogar, Planina pri Jezeru, the Fužina mountain pastures and the Triglav Lakes Valley;
• Pokljuka – for Viševnik, Lipanca, Debela peč and hikes towards Triglav;
• Uskovnica – for Konjščica and Vodnikov dom mountain hut;
• Soriška planina – for Možic, Slatnik, Lajnar and Ratitovec;
• Ukanc and Savica Waterfall – starting points for Komna and the Triglav Lakes Valley.

Organised transfers in Bohinj include seasonal lines organised by the Municipality of Bohinj and Tourism Bohinj. Some connections to trailheads are also operated as regular public bus services.

Organised transfers and regular bus services are not the same

• When planning your journey, check whether the connection is an organised transfer in Bohinj or a regular public bus service.
• The line to Savica Waterfall and the weekend line to Soriška planina are regular Arriva bus services. The Bohinj 24h ticket is not valid on these lines, and the journey must be paid for according to the operator’s current fare schedule.
• While line 7 is operating, you can also travel to Soriška planina using the organised on-demand transfer, which must be booked through the ToyotaGo app.

Bohinj 24h ticket

The Bohinj 24h ticket costs €2 and includes:

• unlimited use of organised transfers in Bohinj;
• transfers between organised lines;
• use for 24 hours from the ticket’s first activation.

Purchase your ticket before travelling:

• on promet.bohinj.si;
• from ticket machines;
• at selected sales points.

Tickets cannot be purchased on the bus.

The Bohinj 24h ticket is not valid on regular Arriva bus services or on trains.

ToyotaGo on-demand transfers

Advance booking through the ToyotaGo app is required for the following organised transfers:

• line 7: Bohinjska Bistrica–Soriška planina;
• line 8: Srednja vas–Uskovnica.

Transport is not guaranteed without an advance booking. Before travelling, also check the deadline by which the booking must be made.

Connections with trains and regular bus services

On some connections, the organised transfer timetables are partly coordinated with:

• train arrivals and departures at Bohinjska Bistrica railway station;
• regular bus services;
• other organised lines in Bohinj.

Always check the entire journey, the time available for transfers and the last connection for your return. We recommend allowing some extra time when changing services, as a delay to one service does not guarantee that the next connection will wait.

You can also use the national journey planner SIMO.SI to check regular bus and railway connections.

When are the transfers busiest?

• During the summer, services between 9.00 and 10.30 are often the busiest. For longer hikes, we recommend setting off earlier.
• The early line 5 departure at 5.30 from Srednja vas – Senožeta is generally less busy and is a good option for starting a hike from the Vogar–Blato crossroad in good time.
• The number of seats is limited. Once a vehicle is full, it cannot accept additional passengers at intermediate stops, and you will need to wait for the next service. A seat cannot be guaranteed in advance, even on early departures, unless booking is available for that particular line.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I buy a Bohinj 24h ticket on the bus?

• No. You must purchase the Bohinj 24h ticket before boarding, either on promet.bohinj.si, from a ticket machine or at a selected sales point.
• The ticketing conditions and purchase options of the regular transport operator apply on Arriva services.

Is the Bohinj 24h ticket valid to Savica Waterfall?

• No. The line to Savica Waterfall is a regular Arriva bus service. The journey must be paid for according to the operator’s fare schedule.

Is the Bohinj 24h ticket valid on trains?

• No. The ticket is valid only on organised transfers in Bohinj. You need a separate Slovenian Railways ticket for train journeys unless you have a valid Julian Alps: Bohinj Card that includes train travel.

What happens if the bus is full?

• A full vehicle cannot accept additional passengers at intermediate stops. You will need to wait for the next departure or find an alternative connection.
• We therefore recommend travelling earlier, particularly when planning a longer hike and during the busiest periods of the summer season.

Are organised transfers intended for groups?

• Organised transfers are intended for individual passengers and are not designed for organised groups.
• An organised group is defined as more than 6 people travelling together on lines 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8; more than 8 people travelling together on lines 1, 2 and 3.
• Larger groups should arrange private transport with a local transport provider in advance.

Can I take a dog on the bus?

Dogs are permitted on organised transfers under certain conditions:

• the dog must be kept on a lead and wear a muzzle;
• it must be clean and dry;
• it must lie on the floor during the journey;
• smaller animals must be transported in a suitable cage or carrier;
• passengers travelling with animals are generally seated in the rear section of the vehicle.
• The driver may refuse to transport an animal if it could pose a safety risk or disturb other passengers.

Different operators’ rules apply on regular bus services. As a rule, animals are not permitted unless a specific exception applies.

Where do I change buses in Ribčev Laz?

• Some connections require a change at the temporary bus stop in front of the entrance to Hotel Jezero, next to the terrace.

What is included in the Julian Alps: Bohinj Card?

Guests staying in Bohinj for at least two nights with a participating accommodation provider can ask their host about obtaining the Julian Alps: Bohinj Card. The card includes:

• free organised bus transfers;
• free travel on regular bus services within the area covered by the card;
• train travel;
• other complimentary services and discounts.

The version of the card that includes parking also allows parking in designated car parks in accordance with the card’s terms and conditions.

Check the latest information before travelling

Timetables, operating periods, prices, stops and traffic arrangements may change. Before every journey, check:

• the latest timetables;
• whether the selected line is operating;
• whether advance booking is required;
• available transfer options;
• the last connection for your return;
• conditions on your chosen mountain trail and the weather forecast.

Be aware of changes in the water

Changes may occur in natural waters during periods of high temperatures, prolonged dry weather, lower water levels or following heavy rainfall. Algae, floating mats, foam, changes in water colour or organic material may become visible in certain areas along the shore. Due to high temperatures and dry conditions, floating mats have also been observed in some parts of Lake Bohinj. If you notice accumulations of algae or other material, unusually coloured water, foam, an unpleasant smell or a warning sign in or near the water, avoid the affected area and choose another place to enter the water.

Advice for safe swimming

• Check the appearance of the water and avoid places with visible floating mats, impurities, unusual colouring or a strong smell.
• Enter the water gradually, especially when your body is overheated.
• Do not jump into murky water or in places where you do not know the depth.
• Avoid swallowing water while swimming.
• Never leave children unattended in or near the water.
• Consider your swimming ability and do not swim further from the shore than is safe for you.
• Follow official notices and the recommendations of the competent authorities.

Take extra care with children and dogs

• Bring enough fresh drinking water with you. Do not allow children or dogs to drink water from the lake.
• Do not allow children or dogs to enter the water in places where floating mats, algae, foam or changes in water colour are visible.
• Do not allow dogs to lick or eat algae, algae-covered stones or organic material along the shore.
• If possible, rinse your dog with clean water after swimming.
• Monitor children and animals after contact with the water. If any health problems occur, consult a doctor or veterinarian as soon as possible.

Important

• Dogs are not permitted to swim within the designated bathing water areas in Fužina Bay and Ukanc.
• Outside the designated bathing water areas, dogs may enter the water only in accordance with the applicable rules, warning signs and conditions at the location.
• Please also note that, in accordance with the relevant municipal ordinance and the Triglav National Park Act, dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.

Follow warnings at the location

• If warning signs or temporary restrictions are in place at a particular location, please follow them at all times.
• These warnings are intended to protect visitors and animals and to help preserve the sensitive natural environment.

Combining train and bike is a great way to explore the Julian Alps and other destinations along the picturesque Bohinj Railway. However, the bike transport capacities in the trains are limited, and due to infrastructure and technical constraints, they unfortunately cannot be increased in the short term. That is why we have prepared some information to help you plan your bike-and-train trips.

In the summer timetable, valid from June 25, 2026, to August 30, 2026, you will find information on bike transport capacity on individual trains. As a more reliable alternative, we recommend renting a bike at your destination or booking private transport for bikes and passengers.

Important Information

The timetable lists departures from the starting station and major intermediate stations, as well as arrivals at the final station. Trains also stop at other intermediate stations. A detailed timetable and other current information, including any delays and traffic disruptions, can be found on the Slovenian Railways website or in the “Grem z vlakom” mobile app.

A bicycle supplement of €3 applies when travelling with a bicycle. The supplement is valid for the same route as the passenger ticket and must be paid directly to the train staff on board.

Alternative transportation and bike rentals

Due to high demand and limited capacity, crowding on trains during certain times is unfortunately unavoidable. You can therefore book a private bicycle transport (at least a day or two in advance) through one of the specialized agencies, or you can rent a bicycle at your destination.

ATTENTION!

Full closure of the Bohinjska Bela–Obrne road

The local road between Bohinjska Bela and Obrne is currently closed while repairs are underway. The closure covers the section running between Bohinjska Bela and the village of Obrne.

The closure is necessary to allow the works to be carried out safely. Once the repairs are complete, the temporary traffic signage will be removed and traffic will return to its usual pattern.

The closure is scheduled to remain in place until 31 August 2026.

While the closure is in effect, it will not be possible to travel directly between Bohinjska Bela and Obrne on the local road. This applies to all vehicles, including cyclists.

A signed detour is in place for all vehicles and applies in both directions.

If your journey takes you between Bohinjska Bela and Obrne, please follow the detour signs and observe the traffic signage on site. We’d also recommend setting off a little earlier than usual to allow extra time.

ALL ROAD CLOSURES IN BOHINJ

DANGEROUS PART OF THE SAVA RIVER, TEMPORARY NAVIGATION REGIME:

Please be informed that part of the Sava dam (the bridge at Petrol) is damaged and very dangerous for all boats as well as for swimmers. In this case, it is a so-called siphon, which can pull a swimmer or a vessel underwater with its current and thus trap them in a life-threatening situation. Especially at higher water levels, this part is hazardous when it is not visible.

We therefore ask you to inform all your guests about this dangerous part of the Sava, especially those who are planning to take their own boats down the Sava Bohinjka. We would also like to remind you that the Municipality of Bohinj, in May this year, adopted a decree establishing a temporary navigation regime on the Sava Bohinjka, which prohibits navigation downstream of the aforementioned bridge at Petrol in Bohinjska Bistrica. The last entry/exit point is just before the bridge on the left bank of the Sava Bohinjka (next to the cycle path).

SHORT-TERM PARKING ZONES (BLUE ZONES):

Published: 26.04.2024 (on the website of the Municipality of Bohinj)

In the area of Bohinjska Bistrica, from 1st 6. in accordance with the Decision on the determination of public parking areas, parking fees and parking cards (Official Gazette of the Municipality of Bohinj, No.2/24), a parking regime will be established in the parking areas, which allows free short-term parking.

The car parks where it is planned to establish are:

• P28 Bohinjska Bistrica 28 (Cemetery, Spar)
• P29 Bohinjska Bistrica 29 (Joža Ažman Cultural Centre)
• P30 Bohinjska Bistrica 30 (Trg svobode, Local Market Square)

Short-term parking (one or two hours) will be available in the car parks. For holders of the “Citizen” or “Holiday Home Owner” and “Friends of Bohinj” parking cards, parking is unrestricted. The condition is that the parking card has been paid for the current year.

The blue zone marking indicating the short-term parking zone is already in place in the car parks, and the parking regime and controls will be implemented from 1. 6..
