In Bohinj, we want visitors and their pets to enjoy a pleasant and safe summer by the lake. However, following another tragic incident, we are closely monitoring the situation and taking additional measures to protect both dogs and people.
We are deeply aware of how painful the loss of a pet is. That is why the Municipality of Bohinj is introducing additional measures to clarify the causes as quickly as possible and to prevent similar cases in the future.
📍 In the areas where algal mats have been detected, warning signs prohibiting swimming for both people and dogs have already been installed. An additional sign will be placed in the Ukanc area.
🔬 The Municipality of Bohinj is working closely with inspectorates, the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection, and other relevant institutions. A forensic autopsy of the latest case will be carried out in order to determine the exact causes of the problem.
💧 So far, analyses of bathing water quality have shown no irregularities. You can also check the water quality yourself via the link, where results of regular bi-weekly analyses during the bathing season are published: ARSO – Bathing Water
⚠️ For the time being, we nevertheless recommend avoiding areas where algal mats have been observed when walking dogs, until the circumstances are clarified. At the same time, we remind visitors that according to the municipal ordinance and the Triglav National Park regulations, dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.
